Indian Navy guides LPG tanker MV Sunshine through Strait of Hormuz

The Indian Navy and multiple maritime agencies have successfully evacuated a high value energy vessel from the Persian Gulf, marking the fifteenth such operation to secure India's fuel supplies amid regional volatility.

Secure transit in the Strait of Hormuz

The MV Sunshine, an LPG tanker bound for India, is currently being escorted through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Sources confirm that the vessel is receiving comprehensive support from several agencies, including the Indian Navy, to ensure its safe passage toward the subcontinent. This mission underscores New Delhi's proactive maritime strategy as it continues to protect vital energy corridors in the Persian Gulf.

Iran calls for regional peace

In a move to address the heightened security presence in the waterway, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that stability would return once a permanent peace is reached. Speaking on Wednesday, Gharibabadi criticised Western diplomatic efforts, suggesting the US was not engaged in serious dialogue.

Regarding the future of the strategic channel, Gharibabadi remarked: "Strait of Hormuz situation will be better than before once peace is established. There will be transparency. There will be no discrepancy. We will not go beyond international law. If peace is established, it will have more safety and security than before."

India as an impartial mediator

Tehran has expressed a strong desire for India to intervene as a diplomatic mediator in West Asia. Ahead of the Brics Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the national capital, Iranian officials praised India's "impartial" approach to regional conflicts. Gharibabadi highlighted the deep civilisational ties between the two countries, describing India and Iran as "two nations with one culture" that place great importance on people to people contact.

"India has always supported peace and is always in favour of peace," Gharibabadi noted, affirming that the Iranian government remains open to New Delhi’s influence in cooling regional temperatures.

A call for diplomatic initiatives

The Iranian leadership has made it clear that they are ready to engage with any framework for de-escalation proposed by the Indian government. As the Brics summit approaches, the focus remains on whether India will leverage its unique position to foster stability. The Deputy Foreign Minister concluded by welcoming any peaceful overtures, stating simply: "Any initiative coming from India will be welcomed."
