Monsoon-driven flash floods devastated Afghanistan's northeastern Nuristan province, killing at least 20 people and leaving more than 100 missing, including Parun's mayor. The worst damage was reported in the provincial capital, where homes, hotels, shops and government buildings were destroyed. Rescue teams continued searching for survivors as residents combed through mud and debris without proper equipment. Authorities warned of more heavy rain across several provinces and urged people to stay away from flood-prone areas. Officials say climate change, combined with deforestation and illegal logging, has increased the risk of severe flooding and deepened Afghanistan's ongoing humanitarian crisis.
