WWDC 2026: iOS 27 could arrive with a revamped Camera app, smarter notifications, battery boosts and more
Apple is expected to use WWDC 2026 to unveil iOS 27 and a slate of software updates focused on performance, usability and design refinements. Reports suggest improvements to battery life, notifications, Wallet, Safari and Apple Watch features, alongside efforts to address issues introduced with last year's redesign.

Apple's AI ambitions may dominate headlines at WWDC 2026, but the company is also expected to unveil a broad set of software upgrades aimed at making its devices faster, more reliable and easier to use.
According to reports, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and watchOS 27 will focus less on sweeping visual changes and more on refining the experience introduced with the previous generation of software. Apple is said to be addressing design inconsistencies, improving performance and introducing a collection of practical features across its ecosystem.
The approach mirrors some of Apple's most popular software releases from the past, prioritising stability and usability over dramatic redesigns.
WWDC 2026: iOS 27 updates expected
One of the biggest themes of iOS 27 is expected to be greater personalisation.
Apple is reportedly preparing a redesigned Camera app that will allow users to customise the controls displayed on screen. Instead of relying on Apple's default layout, iPhone owners may be able to choose which shortcuts and tools appear within the interface.
The Wallet app is also tipped for a significant expansion. A new feature could let users create their own digital passes, tickets and gift cards, helping them store QR-code-based credentials even when third-party apps do not support Apple Wallet directly.
Another reported addition is a built-in bill-splitting tool integrated into Wallet and Messages. Users may be able to photograph receipts, assign expenses to different people and send payment requests without relying on separate services.
Notifications are also expected to receive a visual refresh. Alerts may slide in from the left side of the display, aligning with a new gesture system that changes how users access notifications and search features.
Safari is reportedly getting a redesigned start page that makes it easier to switch between favourites, saved articles, bookmarks and browsing history. Meanwhile, the Weather app could gain a more informative overview panel showing details such as rainfall and wind conditions without requiring users to navigate through multiple screens.
Apple is also said to be introducing new home-screen editing controls, including undo and redo buttons, making it easier to rearrange app icons and widgets.
Beyond new features, performance appears to be a major priority. Reports suggest Apple is working on battery-life improvements for the iPhone, though it remains unclear whether the company will provide specific estimates during its presentation.
More changes coming to Mac, Watch and AirPods
The software updates are expected to extend beyond the iPhone.
macOS 27 is reportedly receiving adjustments to the Liquid Glass design language introduced last year, with Apple seeking to improve readability and reduce transparency-related issues. The update is also said to include optimisations intended to make Macs powered by Apple Silicon feel more responsive.
watchOS 27 could introduce a new watch face inspired by the Modular Ultra layout, alongside enhancements to heart-rate tracking and fitness monitoring.
AirPods users may also see improvements. Apple is reportedly redesigning the AirPods settings interface across iPhone, iPad and Mac devices to make controls easier to find and manage.
Another notable change could involve support for alternative wireless streaming technologies. Reports indicate Apple is working on allowing users to select third-party options such as Google Cast as a default method for sending content from Apple devices to televisions and speakers.
