As smartphone sizes started getting out of hand - figuratively and literally - every passing year, 2025 witnessed a revival of sorts of the compact flagship smartphone category. And thankfully, it wasn’t a flash in the pan. Cut to 2026, we have over a dozen of them in India to choose from. When we say compact, it is obviously in a relative sense. Incidentally, a compact phone of today would have been a full sized phone five years ago.

To simplify matters, we have introduced certain criteria for selection. The phone needs to be less than 155 mm in height, launch date not older than 2025 and should run Android 16. Keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at the best compact flagship and sub-flagship smartphones available in India from various brands at the moment.

Compact phones from Samsung in India in 2026

Samsung Galaxy S26 5G

Samsung has been releasing at least one compact flagship phone every year, and the Galaxy S26 5G is their top dog at the moment. The phone has a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with HDR10+ compliance and 120 Hz refresh rate. It is quite sturdy with an IP68-rated dust and water resistance, Armor Aluminium 2 frame and a glass back with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which also protects its screen.

The S26 is powered by the new Exynos 2600 chip that can rival the Qualcomm Elites, and you get 12 GB RAM with 256 GB internal storage or higher. Battery capacity and charging specs are modest at best with a 4300 mAh battery supporting 25W wired and 15W wireless charging keeping it powered for a day of moderate use. The phone runs Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI 8.5. The company has promised an impressive seven years of software updates for this phone.

The photography department on the Samsung Galaxy S26 seems to be carried forward from its predecessor with minor refinements. It consists of the same three cameras at the back - a 50MP primary with dual pixel PDAF and OIS (optical image stabilisation), a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with Super Steady video support and a 10MP telephoto camera with OIS for 3X optical zoom. You also get a 12MP front camera with PDAF for selfies and video calls. The photography performance remains impressive, and it can also record crisp 8K videos.

Samsung Galaxy S26 5G price in India: Rs 76,999 onwards

Pro tip:

The Samsung Galaxy S25 5G is still a very good option if you can live with a relatively less powerful but highly capable processor and one Android update less. The cameras are pretty much the same and so is the design. All that for a good Rs 14,000 to 15,000 less.

Google Pixel 10 Pro

If you are looking for the purest version of Android and fastest software updates, you can opt for the Google Pixel 10 Pro. It is powered by Google’s current flagship Tensor G5 processor and you get 16 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage to go with it. The phone sports a sharp 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with HDR10+ compliance, 2856 x 1280 pixels resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 3300 nits peak brightness. The screen as well as the glass back are protected against scratches by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Pixel 10 Pro has a 4870 mAh battery that supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The phone has IP68-rated ingress protection. You get the purest version of Android 16 with Material 3 Expressive design language, along with 7 years of OS and security updates. Other than speedy OS updates, Pixel phones are known for their camera capabilities, and this phone is right up there.

The Pixel 10 Pro flaunts three rear cameras, starting with a 50MP primary with dual-pixel PDAF and OIS, a 48MP ultra-wide with 123-degrees FOV and dual-pixel PDAF that lets you capture some excellent macro shots in addition to its primary functionality. It is powered by the same Tensor G5 chip that is found in its Pro variant and you will get 7 years of OS updates too. The only notable difference between the two is the camera quality. Having said that, I would like to add that the Pixel 10 has a perfectly capable camera setup.

Vivo X300

While it’s still available, the Vivo X300 remains the best all-round compact flagship phone around. Powered by Mediatek’s flagship Dimensity 9500 SoC, you get 12 GB and 16 GB RAM options, along with up to 512 GB UFS 4.1 internal storage. The phone has a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2640 x 1216 pixels, 10-bit colour depth, 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ compliance and a peak brightness of 4500 nits.

The X300 feels great in hand due to its size, slim profile and moderate weight. It has a sturdy build with IP68/IP69-rated ingress protection. It runs the latest OriginOS 6 based on Android 16, with five years of OS updates and seven years of security updates promised. Despite being compact, neither the battery capacity nor the cameras have been watered down. The phone hosts a 6040 mAh Silicon Carbon battery that lasts for two days of moderate use and supports 90W fast wired charging and 40W wireless charging.

The photography department on the Vivo X300 boasts of three rear cameras with Zeiss optics. You get a 200MP primary camera with a large 1/1.4” Samsung HPB sensor and OIS that can also record 4K videos at up to 120 FPS. The support cast is strong with a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS for 3X optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera with 119-degrees FOV and auto-focus. Add to that a 50MP front camera with auto-focus and a broad FOV to impress the selfie enthusiasts.

If you cannot find the Vivo X300, the more recent Vivo X300 FE is a perfectly capable and compact alternative with a relatively less powerful processor but equally competent cameras.

OnePlus 13s

With no news on the OnePlus 15s, there’s only one option from OnePlus at the moment. The OnePlus 13s offers a unique combination of power and battery backup in a small package, and is also the most affordable phone of the lot. Powered by Qualcomm’s previous flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which is still amply powerful for any task, you get 12 GB RAM and up to 512 GB UFS 4.0 internal storage. The phone’s 5850 mAh battery lasts for two full days of moderate use, which is great.

The OnePlus 13s does sacrifice a bit in the photography department by excluding an ultra-wide camera. And even the main camera, though competent, isn’t exactly flagship grade. So this is not a phone for photography enthusiasts, but there’s a lot to like about it. The size and weight are just perfect, and it's a powerful phone that runs OxygenOS 16 and provides great battery backup. It still hasn’t seen a price hike (thankfully) despite the RAM and storage inflation.

Xiaomi 17

With its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15, not in stock anymore, the Xiaomi 17 is the only compact phone from the company that meets our criteria. This flagship phone is powered by Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, and you get 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage. It has a sharp and vibrant 6.3-inch 12-bit 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ and Dolby Vision compliance.

The Xiaomi 17 has a fully stacked camera department designed in collaboration with Leica. You get three 50MP modules at the back, with the primary camera flaunting a Light Fusion 950 image sensor, Leica Summilux optics and OIS. You also get an ultra-wide shooter with 102-degrees FOV and a telephoto camera with OIS that provides up to 2.6X optical zoom. A fourth 50MP camera with PDAF takes care of selfies and video calls.

Battery life is quite impressive for a compact phone with its 6330 mAh Silicon Carbon battery keeping the phone up and running for two days of moderate use. The bundled 100W fast charger promises to juice it up briskly. The Xiaomi 17 also supports 50W fast wireless charging. The phone runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, with more OS updates expected going ahead.
