Spotify’s push to evolve beyond music streaming and establish itself as a broader audio platform has received another major update. The company has announced that it will begin offering narrated long-form magazine articles within its app. These articles will be available to Premium subscribers as part of their monthly 15-hour audiobook listening allowance, while users can also purchase standalone articles for $1.99 each.

Spotify said that, starting today, listeners will have access to more than 650 long-form articles from publications including Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair and Pitchfork. The company added that the narrations were produced in-house by its audiobooks team.

The narrated articles will feature a mix of human and AI-generated voices, with sections using digital narration clearly labelled for listeners. With the addition, Spotify is further expanding its catalogue of monetisable audio content and encouraging users to explore formats beyond music and podcasts.

The feature arrives amid a series of recent announcements from the streaming giant, many of which focus on AI-powered audio experiences. These include AI-generated podcasts similar to those created using Google NotebookLM, AI-powered audiobook creation tools for authors, support for AI-generated covers and remixes, along with several other non-AI platform enhancements.

Recently, Spotify introduced a range of more dynamic and interactive podcast experiences for users and creators. The platform also streamlined monetisation for podcasters by expanding creator sponsorship management tools for video content.

Spotify additionally rolled out new membership features, allowing creators to generate recurring revenue directly from their most engaged fans on the platform. Beyond that, the company introduced expanded AI-powered podcast playlist features that let listeners generate personalised episode lists using simple prompts. With the feature, users can create customised daily briefings or weekly round-ups of important updates and topics.

In addition to scheduling episodes on a daily or weekly basis, users can also add context through text, PDFs or links, refine prompts and even choose a preferred narration voice. Each generated episode is saved privately in the user’s library and can be accessed anytime.
