Samsung introduces AI-powered smart eyewear with Google Gemini: Specs, features and more

Samsung has unveiled its new lineup of AI-powered smart glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event, marking the company's latest push into the fast-growing smart eyewear segment. Built around many of the AI capabilities showcased at Google I/O earlier this year, the new glasses are designed to blend advanced intelligence with an everyday wearable form factor. Featuring a lightweight, slim-profile design for all-day comfort, the eyewear will be available in multiple frame styles, colours and lens options, as Samsung looks to take on rivals in the increasingly competitive smart glasses market.

Specs and Features

The smart glasses are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform, which is designed to deliver real-time AI assistance while optimizing touch interactions, connectivity, power efficiency and thermal management within the eyewear's compact form factor. A built-in camera adds visual context to the AI experience, allowing the glasses to better understand and respond to the user's surroundings.

Some of the key features include AI-powered assistance for everyday tasks, such as summarising long messages, reading important information aloud, supporting live translation and enabling users to control the experience through simple voice commands and connected devices.

The glasses also support visual capture, allowing users to capture what they are seeing when prompted. Beyond photography, they can assist with navigation by helping users find routes, provide real-time translation of spoken conversations and deliver a more context-aware AI experience. By understanding what users are doing and carrying relevant information across tasks, the glasses reduce the need to repeat prompts or instructions. They also support live visual sharing, enabling users to stream their point of view during calls for a more natural, hands-free communication experience.

Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s COO of mobile experiences, confirmed to CNET that more designs are yet to be revealed when he spoke to reporters in London before Samsung Unpacked.

He said that durability tests for the glasses show better strength than standard eyewear, “multiple times stronger than regular glasses.” Samsung has already filed more than 200 patents filed for its smart glasses tech Choi added.

Samsung Gentle Monster Edition

The Samsung Gentle Monster Edition features a slim, lightweight frame with a straight upper rim and subtly rounded edges, offering a modern, minimalist look.

The Warby Parker Edition, meanwhile, sports a softly upswept browline finished in a rich brown hue, giving it a versatile design suited for everyday wear.

Throughout the development process, Samsung worked closely with both eyewear partners to refine key fit points, including the forehead and ear contact areas. These refinements helped shape the final designs, improving comfort and making the smart glasses better suited for extended, everyday use.
