Samsung’s next foldable could be less about dramatic reinvention and more about refinement. Early leaks around the Galaxy Z Flip 8 suggest the company is focusing on smoothing out long-standing pain points while keeping the core experience intact.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 already delivers a premium foldable experience with a powerful chipset, bright displays and AI-backed features, its successor may tweak the formula in small but noticeable ways. Here’s a closer look at how the two could compare.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 vs Galaxy Z Flip 7

Design: Samsung appears to be fine-tuning the Flip’s design rather than overhauling it. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is tipped to feature a slightly wider form factor, though the change is expected to be minimal. More notably, it could be around 0.5mm thinner when folded and lighter at roughly 180g, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s 188g.

A new hinge design is also on the cards, which may improve durability and help reduce bulk. The Flip 7 already uses an Armor FlexHinge and an Armor Aluminium frame, so the next version is likely building on that foundation rather than replacing it entirely.

Display: This is where things could get interesting. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 sports a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display alongside a 4.1-inch cover screen, both offering up to 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8, however, is rumoured to take a big step forward by reducing or even eliminating the visible crease. If true, this could address one of the most noticeable drawbacks of foldable phones, making the display feel closer to a traditional slab smartphone.

That said, there are no strong indications of changes to screen size, brightness, or refresh rate, suggesting Samsung may prioritise visual smoothness over spec bumps this time.

Chipset: Performance could see a generational upgrade. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 runs on Samsung’s 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to move to the newer Exynos 2600 processor. While detailed performance figures are not yet known, the upgrade should bring improved efficiency and better AI handling, especially as Samsung continues to push on-device intelligence features.

This also aligns with Samsung’s recent strategy of using its in-house chips for foldables while reserving Qualcomm processors for its Galaxy S series.

Battery: If you were hoping for a battery boost, you may be disappointed. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to retain the same 4,300mAh battery as the Flip 7, along with 25W charging support.

The Flip 7 already delivers a decent all-day experience for moderate users, so Samsung may be relying on chipset efficiency improvements rather than increasing battery size. Still, this is one area where the upgrade looks minimal.

Camera: Camera hardware is likely to remain unchanged. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a dual rear setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, along with a 10-megapixel front camera.

Leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will stick with a similar setup. This means improvements, if any, could come through software and AI enhancements rather than new sensors. The Flip 7 already includes Samsung’s ProVisual Engine and several AI tools, so expect further refinements instead of a major camera leap.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, rumoured to take place on July 22 in London. The company could launch it alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a possible Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide variant.

However, as with all early leaks, these details are not officially confirmed. If the rumours hold, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may not be a radical upgrade, but it could be a smarter, more polished version of an already capable foldable.
