OpenAI set for wider GPT-5.6 rollout after US government clearance

OpenAI is finally expanding the access to its latest flagship AI model, GPT-5.6, after reportedly securing approval from the US Department of Commerce following weeks of technical evaluation and discussions with federal officials. Taking to X, OpenAI confirmed that GPT 5.6 will roll out this Thursday.

Along with the GPT 5.6, OpenAI will also launch Terra and Luna models as well.

The clearance follows an earlier, more limited launch that restricted GPT-5.6 to government-approved organisations. When GPT-5.6 first became available last month, OpenAI limited access to selected government-approved entities rather than launching it globally.
