OnePlus Pad 4 Preview: Key features, specifications and what’s different from the OnePlus Pad 3

OnePlus just released their latest flagship tablet, the Pad 4. We got a chance to spend a few days with it and liked what's on offer. Having spent an extended amount of time with its predecessor, the OnePlus Pad 3, we thought it would be a good time to compare the Pad 4 with it on five key parameters.

We will leave the performance benchmarks and accessories for the final review.

With a critical accessory yet to arrive, we have opted to spend some more time with the new tablet before passing our judgement. By then we can also expect another software update that may alter things. For now, let’s look at what’s new in the OnePlus Pad 4 and what stays the same as compared to the Pad 3.

OnePlus Pad 4 vs OnePlus Pad 3: Design

There is no noticeable change in design, which is fair as the company had refreshed the tablet design less than a year ago on the Pad 3. If anything, OnePlus has shaved off a hair’s breadth worth of thickness and made the latest tablet 3 grams lighter. In isolation, these figures mean nothing, but factoring in a 10% increase in the battery capacity on the Pad 4, this is commendable.

The OnePlus Pad 4 is less than 6 mm thick and looks and feels premium courtesy of its aluminium body with a smooth matte finish. It now comes in two colour options - Dune Glow (brown) and Sage Mist (light green). We got the former for review and it looks quite elegant. The other doesn’t look bad either.

OnePlus Pad 4 vs OnePlus Pad 3: Display

There is no major change in this department barring bumping up the brightness from 900 nits (HBM) to 1000 nits (HBM). The company has retained the large 13.2-inch high-res IPS LCD display with a resolution of 3392 x 2400 pixels, 144 Hz refresh rate, 540 Hz touch sampling rate, 12-bit colour depth and Dolby Vision compliance.

The screen is sufficiently bright even when outdoors, the picture is sharp and the colour reproduction seems on the money. Given that it has an IPS panel, viewing angles are not an issue either.

OnePlus Pad 4 vs OnePlus Pad 3: Hardware and storage

This is the area where the biggest change has taken place. As expected, OnePlus has opted for the latest and the most powerful Qualcomm SoC around, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. You will get two variants of OnePlus Pad in India, one with 8 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB internal storage and the other with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. The Pad 4 boasts of an even faster UFS 4.1 storage as compared to UFS 4.0 on the Pad 3.

The OnePlus Pad 3 is an incredibly powerful device anyway, and needless to say, the Pad 4 takes things a couple of notches higher in this department. The benchmark scores are consistently higher on expected lines, but more on that in the final review. Another notable hardware change being support for Bluetooth 6.0 as opposed to v5.4 earlier. The Wi-Fi compliance remains the same going all the way up to Wi-Fi 7 standards. Cellular connectivity maintains its absence on the company’s flagship tablet series.

OnePlus Pad 4 vs OnePlus Pad 3: Software

The OnePlus Pad 4 debuts with the latest OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16. The company has promised three more major OS updates and at least four years of security updates for this device, which is good. The UI is fluid, lag-free and well-adapted for a tablet as we have seen in the past from the company. OxygenOS 16 adjusts nicely to the large display with a 7:5 aspect ratio and makes good use of the extra screen real estate for multitasking using split-screen, floating apps and drag-and-drop options to share files.

The tablet can be easily synced with other OnePlus phones for file sharing or to shift tasks like image editing to a larger screen. Similarly, one can remotely connect to a Mac or a PC using the O+ Connect app. In addition, the Pad 4 has a handful of AI tricks up its sleeve. Along with Google Gemini integration, you get a bunch of AI tools built in like AI Translate, AI Summary, AI Writer, AI Recorder, AI Painter and more.

OnePlus Pad 4 vs OnePlus Pad 3: Battery and charging

While the OnePlus Pad 3 was already fitted with a massive 12140 mAh battery, the Pad 4 goes a step further by offering a battery capacity of 13380 mAh. It delivers excellent battery backup and keeps the tablet up and running for over three days of moderate use. The standby time looks quite robust too with minimal battery drain after not using the tablet for a couple of days. The company bundles an 80W SuperVOOC charger that juices up this large battery rather briskly. We will update you with the exact charging speed and battery life figures shortly.

OnePlus Pad 4 price and availability in India

The OnePlus Pad 4 is priced in India at Rs 54,999 for the 256 GB variant and Rs 59,999 for the 512 GB model, which is a significant Rs 7,000 jump from the launch price of the Pad 3 last year, and despite having 4 GB less RAM each than its predecessor. You get a one year warranty on the product that will be available for purchase starting 5th May 2026 with a handful of launch offers and discounts.
