OnePlus is reportedly set to wind down its operations in the US and Europe as part of a broader restructuring at parent company Oppo.

OnePlus is preparing to cease operations in the US and Europe, marking a major shift for the smartphone brand that built its reputation on offering aggressively priced Android devices. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the move could begin as early as this week as part of a broader restructuring at parent company Oppo.

The report from Gurman further reveals that Realme, another of Oppo's smartphone brands, may soon exit the Chinese market, while OnePlus would continue to operate in China. The brands' shutdown is reportedly planned to expand to the rest of the world, including India, at some point in 2027.

A lack of momentum in the US and mounting financial challenges have reportedly led Oppo to consider such drastic measures. Geopolitical issues surrounding the sale of Chinese smartphone brands in the US have further exacerbated the company's challenges. The report adds that what was once a go-to choice for many consumers is now witnessing a tepid response, while Apple and Samsung Electronics continue to dominate the US smartphone market.

The reported exit is said to be part of a broader restructuring plan that has been in the works for years. Android Headlines was among the first to report that OnePlus was being dismantled internally. This was followed by reports from 9to5Google and several other publications, which suggested that OnePlus' operations in global markets could eventually be wound down. Around the same time, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu also departed the company, even as the brand continued its operations.

Oxygen OS to Merge into Color OS?

According to reports, OnePlus has been evaluating its regional roadmap for some time, particularly in Europe. Beyond a potential market exit, reports have also suggested that OxygenOS could eventually be folded into Oppo's ColorOS as part of a broader software consolidation strategy.

While it remains unclear how Oppo plans to fill the gap that OnePlus would leave behind, reports indicate that Oppo could expand its own presence in Europe to serve the market previously catered to by OnePlus. If the restructuring plans move ahead, the OnePlus 15 could potentially become the brand's final smartphone release in Western markets. However, given OnePlus' strong sales in India, the company is expected to maintain its operations in the country even if it exits the US and Europe.
