Unknown Glitch Shuts Down Amazon EC2 Servers for a Day

Amazon EC2 is now a popular web hosting service that offers cloud computing. Several companies rely on the services of Amazon EC2 to store their data, as well as for their processing powers.

Although the reason of the sudden outage is still unknown, scores of websites that rely on Amazon’s services had temporarily shut down. Popular websites like Foursquare, Reddit, and Quora among others had brief apologies put up on their sites. Amazon, however, claims to have fixed the glitch in its service and that it was now accessible.

The source of the problem was traced to Amazon’s data center near Dulles Airport outside Washington. Owing to the immense popularity of the services provided, it’s used by many.Due to this, the Thursday outage led to many sites shutting down at once. However, Amazon’s other data centre in California saved the day for scores of others who claim to have been unscathed.
