Microsoft is pushing its AI services, Copilot, hard. One of the ways it plans to do so, is by updating its Windows keyboard, introducing a new key for Copilot. It will be used to launch Copilot's services quickly

Microsoft has unveiled a significant update to its Windows keyboard, introducing a new "Copilot key" that will grant users quick access to the tech giant's Copilot service. This marks the first alteration to the device in almost thirty years, showcasing Microsoft's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its products. The announcement, made on Thursday, is part of Microsoft's broader initiative to invest billions in AI technology. The addition of the Copilot key reflects the company's ambitious plans for AI-enabled personal computers (PCs). These cutting-edge machines are equipped with advanced chips capable of running large-language models and AI-powered applications directly on the device, rather than relying on cloud computing.Industry analysts anticipate that the introduction of AI PCs could revitalize the personal computer market, particularly after a post-pandemic decline. Research firm Canalys predicts an acceleration in the adoption of AI-capable PCs from 2025 onwards. The Copilot key will make its debut on select new Windows 11 PCs leading up to and during the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas later this month, according to Microsoft. The company has confirmed that the key will become available sometime after February this year, including on upcoming Surface devices.Copilot, introduced in November, is a versatile service capable of performing various tasks, such as text summarization and facilitating virtual meetings. It seamlessly integrates with Microsoft's web and productivity applications, providing users with enhanced AI-powered functionalities.(With inputs from agencies)
