Microsoft confirms Snapdragon X2 chips for new surface pro and surface laptop later this year

Microsoft has  unveiled its next-generation of Surface PCs for 2026. The new class of laptops features upgraded displays, improved haptics, and Intel Core Ultra 3 series chips. New Snapdragon X2 models are also on the way, but they will not be available for a few more months.

The new Surface Pro 12, Surface Laptop 8, and Surface Laptop 13-inch are available for business customers, while Snapdragon X2-based models for consumers—along with a refreshed Surface Pro 12-inch—are expected to arrive around summer. Snapdragon X2 chips are currently in high demand, and manufacturing is running a few months behind the Intel variants. Microsoft is not yet ready to ship the consumer models.

Reports suggest that the upcoming laptops will feature OLED displays for the first time, along with the same haptic touchpad improvements already seen on the Intel models.

Microsoft and Intel have revealed the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra 3 series chipset, which are shipping now, while Snapdragon X2 variants are expected later this year. The tech giant has launched four refreshed Surface PCs, all primarily targeting business customers.

Microsoft has updated its flagship Surface Laptop 13.8-inch and 15-inch models, which are the highlights of the lineup, featuring the most notable upgrades and new display options. New Surface Laptop configurations now include a privacy screen filter that can be enabled on the device, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The 15-inch model now ships with a brighter, higher-resolution display, with pixel density increasing from 201 PPI to 262 PPI, resulting in sharper text and clearer visuals. The other major upgrade is the touchpad, with support for Windows 11’s new haptic signal features. The 13-inch midrange devices are also shipping with Intel chips and, for the first time, an anti-reflective display.
