Meta CEO tells employees no more company-wide layoffs expected this year: Report

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has told employees that he does not expect any further company-wide layoffs this year, according to a memo reported by Reuters. The announcement came on the same day a major restructuring drive was carried out at Meta, which included cutting around 10% of its global workforce and transferring approximately 7,000 employees to new roles focused on AI workflows.

“I want to be clear that we do not expect other company-wide layoffs this year. I also want to acknowledge that we haven’t been as clear as we aspire to be in our communication, and that’s one area I want to make sure we improve,” Zuckerberg said in the memo.

The changes form part of a broader overhaul at Meta this year, as the company accelerates investment in AI with a focus on embedding AI agents into both its product ecosystem and internal operations. In total, the layoffs and internal transfers announced this week affect around 20% of the company’s workforce. Some transfers have already taken place, while in other cases employees are being notified.

According to multiple reports, affected Meta employees will receive severance packages including 16 weeks (four months) of base pay, plus two additional weeks for every two years of continuous employment. They will also receive up to 18 months of healthcare coverage for themselves and their families.

Meta layoffs 2026

Meta has carried out several rounds of layoffs in recent years. In the latest restructuring, the company is letting go of nearly 10% of its staff, with engineering, product, and content design teams reportedly most affected. The tech giant has also scrapped around 6,000 open roles and reassigned 7,000 employees into AI-focused organisations.

Six months earlier, Meta laid off around 600 employees from its AI division as part of efforts to streamline overlapping teams following internal restructuring in October 2025.
