Johny Srouji plans major restructuring to accelerate Apple product development: Report
Apple is restructuring its hardware and product engineering leadership under Johny Srouji to accelerate development of future devices and strengthen integration between silicon and hardware teams

Last month, Apple announced a series of significant leadership changes, including that John Ternus would take over as Apple CEO effective September 1. At the same time, Apple also elevated Johny Srouji to a broader role as the company’s chief hardware officer.
A recent Bloomberg report has revealed that Srouji is making a series of changes aimed at speeding up work on future devices. In addition to accelerating product development, his goal is to better integrate teams working on Apple’s in-house silicon with those developing the company’s hardware products.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted one of the biggest shifts: Srouji is restructuring management of product design engineering, the division responsible for translating concepts created by Apple’s industrial design team into products ready for consumers.
That responsibility is moving from veteran Apple vice president Kate Bergeron to two of her longtime deputies, Shelly Goldberg and Dave Pakula. Goldberg already oversees the function for the Mac lineup, while Pakula has led engineering efforts for the Apple Watch, iPad, and AirPods. Richard Dinh, a longtime deputy to John Ternus, will continue leading product design for the iPhone.
Srouji is also reportedly planning to establish a new “Ecosystems, Platforms, and Partnerships” team, which will be led by Matt Costello and Kevin Lynch. Lynch currently oversees Apple’s robotics-focused initiatives, while Costello leads the company’s home and audio products division.
Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to lead development of the A4 chip, Apple’s first in-house system-on-a-chip. Before joining Apple, he held senior processor development and design roles at Intel and IBM. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
