Intel powered Xolo phone launches in India: How will it do?

The first Intel powered Android phone - the Lava Xolo 900 goes on sale in India today. The mobile tie up, widely touted as hailing a new era in mobile computing, is however only the first step for Intel.[caption id="attachment_285539" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="The Xolo goes on sale in India today: Image from Tech2.in"][/caption]NDTV reported that Lenovo, Motorola and European telecom operator Orange are all scheduled to release Intel-powered smartphones. "Lenovo is expected to start the sales of K900, another Intel-powered phone in China next month, while Orange may ship Santa Clara with Atom processor in June. Motorola is yet to officially announce any devices with Intel chips at core", said the NDVTV report.Tech2 reports that phone called, The Lava X900 will be part of the XOLO series and will be priced at Rs 22,000. While this sounds likes a high price, the X900 will compete with Motorola Atrix 2 and the HTC Sensation, according to Tech2.If Intel’s Atom chip turns out to worth the effort then it could provide a good challenge to the ARM processor, which is used in nearly all major smartphones.Other features of the phone include 4.03-inch display with a rather high resolution of 1024 x 600, an 8 megapixel camera and the phone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread but can be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.What remains to be seen is whether this will be just another phone in the line of Androids that seem to be flooding the market or will it actually stand out against competing phones from Samsung and HTC.
