India-EU TTC meeting boosts FTA momentum, deep-tech startup partnership on the horizon
India and the EU have reaffirmed their commitment to concluding the FTA while expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and deep-tech startups.

The European Union and India held the third meeting of their Trade and Technology Council (TTC) in Brussels, reaffirming the council's role as a key platform for cooperation on trade, technology, and security. The meeting underscored the growing ambition of the India-EU strategic partnership, with both sides agreeing to strengthen strategic value chains and deepen business engagement.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal outlined the government's plans to translate the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) into tangible economic outcomes once it is signed.
"We are helping create the framework for greater trade and business through the Free Trade Agreement. We are actioning agenda items through the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) to ensure that we bring the FTA to life as soon as we can," Goyal said.
The minister also expressed confidence that the agreement would be signed soon.
"We look forward to witnessing the signing of the EU-India FTA later this year," he added.
Negotiations between India and the European Union have gathered momentum in recent months, with both sides expressing optimism about concluding the agreement.
On the topic, EU Vice President has also stated that India, EU are looking at "joining forces" to develop frontier AI models and computing capacity.
Highlighting the broader partnership, Goyal said the two sides remain committed to strengthening bilateral ties.
"Both the EU and India are committed to building upon the momentum that has been created—the momentum built on mutual trust and our shared vision to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes in a spirit of partnership," he said.
The meeting also revealed plans to launch an India-EU Startup Partnership focused on deep-tech and clean technology, aimed at fostering innovation, strengthening collaboration between startups, and accelerating the development of future technologies.
With negotiations gathering pace and both sides expressing optimism, the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement is expected to deepen trade ties, improve market access, and unlock new opportunities across sectors ranging from manufacturing and technology to clean energy and digital innovation. If concluded this year, the agreement could mark one of the most significant economic partnerships for both India and the European Union.
