Google I/O 2026: Google reveals new Gentle Monster and Warby Parker smart glasses launching this fall
At Google I/O 2026, Google showcased new Gemini-powered smart glasses designed for hands-free AI assistance, real-time translations, navigation, multimedia capture, and app integration across Android and iOS devices

Google has revealed a slew of new details about its intelligent eyewear at Google I/O 2026, stating that the glasses are designed to help users in the moment without taking them out of it. Google revealed that there will be two types of eyewear: audio glasses, which provide spoken assistance through in-ear audio, and display glasses, which visually show users the information they need. Both are designed to keep users hands-free and heads-up, while allowing them to access help from Gemini through simple voice commands.
Stylish on the Outside
Google acknowledged that smart glasses lacking style could undermine their appeal. As a result, the new glasses have been designed to offer both comfort and fashion-forward styling. Google has partnered with Samsung and leading eyewear brands to combine advanced technology with premium hardware design. The company showcased two designs created in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with full collections expected to be revealed later this year.
Here’s What Sets Them Apart
With the new glasses, users will be able to access Google simply by tapping the side of the frame to instantly activate Gemini. From there, users can ask questions about the world around them or request Gemini to carry out tasks on their behalf.
One of the standout features allows users to ask about what they see. The glasses can provide restaurant reviews while walking past eateries, identify cloud formations overhead, and quickly decipher unfamiliar signs or symbols.
The smart glasses also focus heavily on navigation. Users can receive turn-by-turn directions directly through the glasses, while Gemini can add stops to routes or recommend nearby restaurants based on personal preferences.
Stay Connected and Hands-Free
The glasses allow users to manage calls, send texts, and receive summaries of missed messages without taking out their phones, all while continuing to listen to music through private over-ear speakers.
Users will also be able to capture high-quality photos and videos instantly through simple voice commands. Google demonstrated how users could take a picture and use AI-powered editing tools such as Nano Banana to remove distractions or creatively modify images. For example, users can say, “Hey Google, take a picture and put everyone in funny hats.”
Translate Speech and Writing in Real Time
The glasses can provide real-time translations with audio that matches the tone and pitch of the speaker’s voice. Users can also look at menus or signs to hear instant translations.
Gemini intelligence can handle multi-step tasks in the background as well. For example, Gemini could prepare a coffee order through DoorDash while the user’s phone remains in their pocket, leaving only the final order confirmation to the user.
Use Applications on the Go
With the new smart glasses, users will also be able to interact with apps such as Uber and Mondly entirely through voice commands. The glasses will support pairing with both Android and iOS smartphones.
