From revamped shortcuts to smarter Siri: iOS 27 rumoured to bring these new iPhone features

Apple may soon introduce a slew of new AI-powered features, enhancing personalization and productivity across the iPhone experience with iOS 27. Reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to bring in a custom wallpaper generator powered by an image-generation system for the iPhone. iOS 27 is also expected to expand the Apple Intelligence suite with upgraded writing tools, AI-assisted grammar checking, and a more advanced, chatbot-style version of Siri.

iOS 27’s new wallpaper generator and smarter Shortcuts app

As per a Bloomberg report, Apple’s AI-powered wallpaper generator in iOS 27 will leverage the Image Playground application. First introduced with iOS 18, the application allows users to create AI-generated images and custom emojis across supported Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Selecting a wallpaper will present users with the option to generate a completely custom background using AI.

Bloomberg reports have also revealed that the Shortcuts application, which is currently being tested, will allow users to create shortcuts simply by describing what they want them to do. Users will be asked what they want their shortcut to accomplish, and they may add simple prompts, with Shortcuts then generating workflows within seconds—ready to use.

New updates to writing tools

A separate section of the report claims that Apple is preparing a revamped AI chatbot-style version for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Currently in testing, it is said to be an upgraded version of writing tools capable of more advanced text rewriting and AI-generated writing tasks compared to the current version. The new update would introduce a “Write with Siri” toggle above the keyboard, along with the existing “Help Me Write” option when Siri is activated.

Additionally, the new software update would include a grammar-checking tool, which may also roll out to other Apple devices. This add-on would work similarly to Grammarly, suggesting revisions, grammar corrections, and sentence improvements while typing. These features are expected to be further streamlined, allowing users to jump between flagged sections of text more easily.

These AI-powered features, including the wallpaper generator and redesigned Shortcuts app, are expected to be previewed during Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote.
