Apple's new ChatGPT-like Siri may run on Nvidia chips

Apple's long-awaited artificial intelligence upgrade for Siri could be powered by a surprising combination of technologies from two of its biggest industry rivals.

According to a report by The Information, Apple plans to rely on Nvidia's advanced AI chips to handle computing workloads tied to a revamped Siri experience expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 next week.

The development comes after reports that Apple had already reached an agreement with Google to integrate Gemini models into Siri. While Google is expected to provide the underlying AI intelligence, Nvidia's hardware could play a crucial role in delivering the computing power needed to process user requests.

The strategy represents a notable departure from Apple's traditional approach of building and controlling most of the key technologies behind its products. It also raises fresh questions about how Apple's existing AI infrastructure will coexist with third-party services as the company seeks to catch up in the generative AI race.

Apple plans to power the new Siri with Nvidia chip

According to The Information, Apple intends to run certain Siri requests through Gemini models hosted on Google's cloud infrastructure. To support those AI workloads, the company is reportedly planning to use Nvidia's Blackwell B200 processors, one of the most powerful data centre chips currently available for artificial intelligence applications.

The Blackwell B200 is Nvidia's flagship GPU architecture designed specifically for training and deploying large language models. Compared with the company's earlier Hopper-generation hardware, Blackwell promises faster performance, greater efficiency and lower operating costs for AI workloads.

The report also suggests that Apple plans to enable Nvidia's Confidential Computing technology. The feature is designed to protect sensitive information while it is being processed by encrypting data directly within the hardware environment.

Privacy remains a particularly important issue for Apple as it expands its AI offerings. The company has repeatedly emphasised security and data protection as differentiators in its AI strategy.

That focus became evident at WWDC 2024 when Apple introduced Private Cloud Compute, a system that allows complex AI tasks to be processed in the cloud while running on Apple-controlled silicon. The goal was to reassure users that personal information would remain protected even when requests could not be handled entirely on-device.

WWDC 2026: The new Siri

The AI-powered Siri expected to debut at WWDC 2026 could be Apple's most ambitious virtual assistant overhaul since the product was first introduced.

Reports suggest the upgraded Siri will finally gain several features Apple previewed previously, including the ability to understand personal context, analyse content displayed on a user's screen and complete multi-step actions across both Apple's own apps and third-party services.

Apple is also said to be preparing a standalone Siri chatbot experience designed to compete more directly with services such as ChatGPT and Claude.

The chatbot is expected to support both voice and text interactions, giving users the option to switch between the two. Reports indicate users may also be able to view conversation history, upload files and images, and submit multimodal requests combining text and visual inputs.

Another visual change could arrive through the Dynamic Island interface. Siri is reportedly set to gain a new animated experience that appears directly within the Dynamic Island, complete with a "Search or Ask" bar that serves as a central entry point for AI interactions.

If the reports prove accurate, WWDC 2026 could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Siri, transforming it from a traditional voice assistant into a more capable AI-powered digital companion.
