Apple iOS 27 may turn every iPhone photo into a pro edit with one tap

Smartphone photography has long been about capturing the perfect moment. But increasingly, it is also about perfecting it after the fact. From subtle lighting tweaks to dramatic edits, artificial intelligence is reshaping how images are created and refined. With its next major software update, Apple appears ready to push that evolution further.

According to recent reports, Apple is preparing to introduce a suite of AI-powered editing tools with iOS 27, aimed at making advanced photo manipulation faster and more intuitive. The update is expected to be unveiled at the company’s annual WWDC 2026 on June 8.

iOS 27 to add three new photo editing features

At the centre of the update is a redesigned editing interface within the Photos app, reports Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. A new section, reportedly labelled “Apple Intelligence Tools”, will bring together a set of AI-driven features designed to transform images within seconds.

Among the most notable additions is a tool called “Extend”. As the name suggests, it allows users to expand an image beyond its original frame by generating additional visual content. For instance, a tightly cropped photo of a landmark could be widened to include surrounding scenery, with users controlling the extent of expansion simply by dragging the edges of the image.

Another feature, “Enhance”, focuses on improving overall image quality. It automatically adjusts elements such as lighting, colour balance and clarity, removing the need for manual fine-tuning. This positions it as a quick, one-tap solution for users looking to elevate their photos without diving into detailed controls.

Completing the trio is “Reframe”, a tool designed to alter the perspective of an image. Particularly useful for spatial photos, it enables users to shift the viewpoint and composition after the picture has been taken, offering greater creative flexibility.

However, the development process has not been entirely seamless. Reports suggest that both Extend and Reframe have faced reliability issues during internal testing. As a result, Apple may choose to delay or limit these features depending on how its underlying AI models perform in the coming months.

Alongside these additions, iOS 27 is also expected to focus on broader system improvements, including bug fixes and stability enhancements.

iOS 27 to bring revamped Siri

Beyond photography, Apple is also preparing a significant overhaul of its voice assistant, Siri. For years, Siri has remained a steady but relatively static presence across Apple devices, even as competitors have introduced more advanced, conversational AI systems.

That may soon change. The company is reportedly working on one of the most substantial upgrades to Siri since its debut, aiming to transform it into a more dynamic and central part of the user experience.

One of the most notable developments is the possibility of a standalone Siri app. Instead of existing primarily as a voice-triggered feature, Siri could become a dedicated application across iPhone, iPad and Mac, offering a more visible and interactive interface.

The redesigned experience is expected to resemble modern chat-based platforms, allowing for longer, context-aware conversations rather than one-off commands. This shift could make interactions feel more natural and continuous, aligning Siri more closely with newer AI assistants.

Apple is also said to be exploring deeper integration of AI across its ecosystem, including features that make it easier to access Siri within different apps and workflows. A potential “Ask Siri” function could further simplify how users interact with the assistant across devices.

Taken together, these updates suggest a broader strategy. With iOS 27, Apple is not just refining existing features but rethinking how AI fits into everyday tasks, from editing photos to managing digital interactions.
