Amid rising AI-driven layoffs, Glean CEO Arvind Jain rejects idea of AI replacing humans

At a time when many companies are increasingly settling for  AI-driven layoffs, one Silicon Valley founder has offered a sharply contrasting perspective. Arvind Jain, CEO of the AI-powered enterprise search platform Glean, argues that artificial intelligence will not replace workers, but instead enhance their capabilities. 

While speaking on stage at Fortune’s Workplace Innovation Summit, Arvind Jain said, “I don’t think AI—or actually, for me, hopefully forever too—AI never replaces any human; it just actually augments us, enables us, and allows us to do higher-quality work.”

He further added, “There are many who will talk about whether you can replace this role with AI or that role with AI. But practically, we work with the largest enterprises in the world, and we’re not seeing any role getting eliminated—not today,” the Indian-origin entrepreneur noted.

Jain’s predictions about the future workforce differ significantly from the broader sentiment in business circles. While figures such as Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, have repeatedly warned that artificial intelligence may eliminate up to half of white-collar jobs in the coming years, Jain believes that no roles are being eliminated in the near term.

The Indian-American entrepreneur has advanced the argument that AI should function as a co-pilot rather than a replacement for human workers. He advocates for AI to handle repetitive tasks, thereby freeing people to focus on judgment, creativity, and problem-solving.

Beyond Amodei, executives such as Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan and Jim Farley have also cautioned that AI could eventually replace a significant portion of white-collar work in the United States.

Arvind Jain: Background

Arvind Jain is the Indian-American founder and CEO of Glean, based in Palo Alto, California. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and later pursued a master’s degree in the same field from the University of Washington.

Before founding Glean, Jain had a 20-year-long career at Google, where he worked as an engineer on products such as Google Search, Maps, and YouTube. In 2014, he co-founded Rubrik, a cloud data management and cybersecurity company, which went on to become one of Silicon Valley’s prominent enterprise tech firms.

He launched Glean in 2019 to address a major workplace challenge: helping employees quickly access information scattered across various company apps and documents. Over the years, Glean’s valuation has surged rapidly. The startup was valued at about $1 billion in 2022, $2.2 billion in early 2024, $4.6 billion later that year, and reportedly reached $7.2 billion in 2025.
