Novak Djokovic has broken his silence on the players' threat to boycott the Grand Slam events as the French Open payout controversy rages. The Serbian veteran threw his weight behind the potential threat, a growing storm that could shake the foundations of tennis.

The tennis world is in upheaval after some of the top players threatened to boycott Grand Slam events because of low payouts. The frustration stemmed from the French Open prize money after the organisers announced a 10% increase in the overall pot, yet the players have alleged that their share of revenue remains far too small.

Djokovic opens up on players' boycott threat

Djokovic emphasised his support for players in the ongoing Grand Slam payout dispute and appreciated leaders like Aryna Sabalenka are stepping up to understand the complexities of politics and push for change, which benefits everyone.

The Serbian veteran stressed that tennis is a collective effort involving players, tournaments and governing bodies, but acknowledged that conflicts of interest remain unaddressed. He added that players held the real power to elevate the game and demanded transparency and fairness.

"Players know they will always have my support, and that's it. The new generations are emerging, and I am glad there is willingness from our sport's leaders, such as Sabalenka, to step up and truly understand how tennis politics work, grasp the nuances and what truly needs to be done, not just for one's benefit and well-being but for everyone."

"We are all part of the same sport. We are all trying to elevate tennis, whether players, tournaments, or governing bodies. Unfortunately, many times, there are conflicts of interest that some people do not want to address. That's where I believe players truly hold power," Novak Djokovic said upon his arrival at the Masters 1000 in Rome, as quoted by Pundo de Break.

As the game's biggest names continue to demand fairness and hint at drastic action, Jannik Sinner has shared his thoughts on the Grand Slam boycott threat. He believes the players contribute far more than what they receive in return, but the lack of respect affects every player.

"It’s more about respect, you know? Because ​I think we give much more than what we are getting back. It’s not only for the top players, it’s for all of us players. Of course, we talk about ​money. The most important is respect, and we just don’t feel it," Sinner said.

The French Open Grand Slam kicks off from May 18 to June 7, 2026, at Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
