Ukrainian para-athlete Maksym Murashkovskyi won a silver medal in the men's biathlon event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympic Games on Sunday. However, it was not his medal that surprised many, but who he gave credit to for his win is what caught everyone's attention.

Murashkovskyi surprised everyone after he revealed that the artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT played a key role in his journey to winning a silver medal at the Winter Paralympics. He said that the AI tool helped him in training and other stuff over the past six months.

Murashkovskyi explains how AI helped him win silver medal

Murashkovskyi explained that ChatGPT helped him in making tactics, preparing training plans, and even provided mental support. The 25-year-old visually impaired biathlete went on to claim that these tools may partially replace human coaching in the future.

"For the past six months, I have been training with ChatGPT. It was not only tactics. It was half of my training plan, motivation, etcetera. So it was a huge volume of all of my training. I used it as a psychologist, coach and, sometimes, as a doctor," Murashkovskyi said after his silver medal win on Sunday.

When asked if AI will replace human coaching in the near future, he said, "Not completely for five to 10 years. But part of it, definitely. I also won a few medals there [Para Biathlon World Cup], and even a gold. So I can give great credit to ChatGPT. I believe in it, it is a revolutionary technology."

The Ukrainian cross-country skier secured the silver medal behind China’s Dang Hesong in the event and was guided by Vitaliy Trush. This was Murashkovskyi’s first appearance at the Winter Paralympics. He had finished seventh in the men’s sprint event on Saturday but still has three more opportunities to win medals in the tournament.

Murashkovskyi won a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2023 and has also earned multiple medals on the World Cup circuit.
