Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal's World Cup debut is under threat after he suffered a shocking injury on Wednesday, ruling him out of the remaining La Liga 2025-26 season. The 18-year-old football sensation was seen limping off the pitch during FCB's 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo.

Yamal went down after he scored the winner against Celta in the 40th minute and immediately looked to the bench, signalling he was hurt. He dropped to the ground as his teammates arrived to celebrate, and appeared to grab the back of his left leg.

Yamal out for remaining La Liga season

FC Barcelona has confirmed that Lamine Yamal has sustained a hamstring injury in his left leg and will miss the rest of the season. The Spanish footballer would follow a 'conservative treatment plan' following the season-ending injury.

But on a positive note, Yamal is expected to be available for the 2026 World Cup.

"The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup," FC Barcelona tweeted on 'X' (formerly Twitter).

Lamine leads the charts at Barcelona by scoring 24 goals and making 18 assists across all competitions.

Lamine vows to come back stronger

Following the injury, Lamine Yamal shared his thoughts on social media, saying that the setback 'hurts more than he could explain,' but believes his team will remain ahead of their opposition in the remaining matches. The 18-year-old further said that this is not the end, but a break, and intends to come back stronger than ever in the competition.

“This injury leaves me off the pitch at the moment I wanted to be there the most and it hurts more than I can explain. It hurts not to be able to fight with my teammates, not to be able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know that they are going to give their soul in every game," Yamal said on Instagram.

“I will be there, even if it is from the outside, supporting, encouraging and pushing as one more. This is not the end, it is just a pause. I will come back stronger, with more desire than ever, and next season will be better. Thank you for the messages and Visca Barça.”

If Yamal recovers in time, he can make his World Cup debut when Spain open their campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta.
