Neymar weeps after Brazil return as emotional family reunion sparks farewell talk: 'I don't think...'

Neymar experienced emotionally charged moments as he made a return to the Brazilian football side after a gap of 981 days. Despite suffering multiple recent injuries, coach Carlo Ancelotti showed faith by picking him in the team for the FIFA World Cup 2026, but Neymar missed the first two group games.

The agonising wait finally ended on Thursday as he came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Scotland that fired Brazil into the Round of 32. In Miami, Neymar was welcomed with loud cheers as he replaced Matheus Cunha in the 76th minute. Brazil were already 3-0 up by then.

The former Barcelona and PSG forward showed a few glimpses of his playmaking ability during his short stay on the pitch before the final whistle was blown. As soon as the match ended, Neymar was seen breaking down into tears, overwhelmed by emotions on finally managing to return to the national team after fighting multiple knee, ankle and hamstring injuries.

He was also reunited with his family on the sidelines of the pitch in Miami as his eldest son, David Lucca, was seen giving him a warm hug and his long-term partner, Bruna Biancardi, was also there with daughters Mavie and Mel.

Neymar's tears say it all

It was a profound moment as the 34-year-old Neymar looked highly emotional and happy in equal measure while trying to soak in what had just happened. However, his celebration with the family also posed another big question: Is this the end of Neymar's time with the Brazil team?

Interestingly, Ancelotti only brought on Neymar when the match was already sealed and his further participation in the matches will depend on his fitness, but it does appear that the team is strong enough to deal with challenges on its own, especially when Neymar's 100% fitness is not guaranteed.

Neymar given farewell in Miami?

While commenting on Neymar's meet-up with his family, football expert Paul Masefield suggested something similar on Zee5.

"I don't think we will see him anymore in action. It's honestly just my honest opinion. Carlo Ancelotti has more options. These scenes are like a final farewell," Masefield said.

Nonetheless, Neymar massively enjoyed his 2026 World Cup debut as he revealed his emotions in a post-match talk later.

"It was a moment of gratitude. In these years since I got injured here with the national team, my goal was to play in the World Cup, return to the national team, defend this shirt, because I love being here," Neymar said.

Considering the playmaking ability of Neymar, it's impossible to say that Neymar will not feature in any of the future World Cup matches for Brazil, especially if they make a deep run, but a lot will depend on his fitness, as the competition is only going to get tougher.

Most likely, Neymar is well aware of the reality, which is why he celebrated the recent appearance with his family as if there's no tomorrow.
