Morocco fans flood London streets, clash with riot cops after World Cup elimination by France

London descended into chaos after Moroccan fans swarmed the streets following France's 2-0 victory in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinal on Friday (Thursday in the US) in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Les Blues' win led to Morocco's exit from the tournament, leading to unrest in the British capital.

France advanced to the World Cup semifinals after sealing a 2-0 victory over Morocco. Kylian Mbappe scored the opening goal, while Ousmane Dembele extended Les Blues' lead in the knockout tie.

While many believed that Paris would erupt into disarray, London was the worst affected following the quarterfinal clash.

London streets erupt in chaos after Morocco's elimination

Football fans waved Moroccan flags and clashed with law enforcement officers in Northwest London. According to The Sun, smoke billowed through Edgware Road, with debris scattered as fans launched fireworks and clashed with London police.

Police were spotted in riot gear as they attempted to disperse the crowd. They marched through the streets with shields and batons to protect themselves while also creating a blockade to protect an injured officer, who was treated by paramedics on the spot.

An officer was also injured by a mob in West London and had to be taken to a medical facility.

Celebrations take over Paris streets

As chaos erupted in London, the streets of Paris were much more subdued following France's semifinal victory. The report added that over 20,000 cops were deployed across France, with 8,000 lining the streets of Paris.

French security had warned of a repeat of the violence that erupted after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League title in May. But fans turned the streets of the French Capital into a 'giant fan zone'.

Fans were seen waving the national flag from their vehicles at Champs-Élysées. They also blared horns after France's victory, as jubilant celebrations took over following their quarterfinal win at the 2026 World Cup.

Les Blues became the first team to qualify for the semifinals, and their next opponent would be determined once the quarterfinal stage is done.
