Joan Laporta has been re-elected as Barcelona president as he defeated Victor Font by a big margin, winning 68 per cent of the vote. But his re-election has been marred by goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen being denied a vote in Sunday’s presidential elections.

The German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is currently on loan at Girona, was at Camp Nou to vote in the Joan Laporta vs Victor Font battle, but it turned out to be an embarrassing moment for the veteran as he was informed that his name was not on the electoral register.

All players become members -- known as socios -- at Barcelona when they join the club, but they need to keep their membership active to participate in the decision-making process.

A source told ESPN that Marc-Andre ter Stegen's membership is currently inactive, and hence, he was not allowed to cast his vote in the presidential election.

Overall, 114,504 members are part of the electoral register.

Meanwhile, 63-year-old Laporta said that his resounding victory would only result in "exciting" years for Barcelona as they aim to continue their dominance and win the biggest trophies in world football.

“This result is resounding and gives us great strength, so much so that it makes us unstoppable. Nobody will stop us; we will continue to defend Barça against everyone. Exciting years are coming, and they will be the best years of our lives,” Laporta said after his victory.

Laporta's new tenure as Barcelona president will stretch till 2031.
