What is Lamine Yamal’s injury? Barcelona star feared to miss rest of season
Lamine Yamal limped off the field after scoring the winning goal for Barcelona in their 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Wednesday. The injury has put his World Cup hopes in doubt.

Barcelona further tightened their grip on the top of the LaLiga standings and look set to win the league after a gritty 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday at Camp Nou. However, the win was overshadowed by injury to their star striker Lamine Yamal.
Yamal had to leave the field immediately after scoring the goal which proved to be the difference between the two teams. The injury has almost ended his chances to participate in the rest of the season for Barcelona and could also hamper his chances to feature in what would be his debut FIFA World Cup in June-July.
Lamine Yamal injury details
According to ESPN, Yamal has torn his hamstring. The severity of the injury will be known in due course with details of the length of time he will be out also awaited.
The 18-year-old won and scored a penalty few minutes before the half-time. However, instead of celebrating the goal, he fell to the ground clutching his hamstring. He received treatment for a while on the pitch before walking off the pitch.
"We have to wait," Barca coach Hansi Flick said after the match. "We have to see what it is. There is something. He felt it. After the goal, he would not leave the pitch without reason.
"So it's something. Something happened. Hopefully it's not so bad, but we have to wait until tomorrow."
Yamal is expected to be one of the stars of the World Cup where he will play for Spain. He was set to make his World Cup debut against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta but the injury has made his participation in the mega event uncertain.
Barcelona had already lost Joao Cancelo to injury earlier during the match and Yamal's departure further tested the team. Flick's side still managed to win the match and take a comfortable nine-point lead at the top of the LaLiga. With six more rounds left, Barcelona would hope that they can stay at the top of the league even without Yamal.
