R Praggnanandhaa is back to winning ways, defeating Alireza Firouzja in 51 moves while playing with white pieces! It’s the second Classical victory for Pragg at the ongoing Norway Chess, having previously beaten Carlsen in the third round.

Magnus Carlsen and Vincent Keymer play out a 57-game stalemate, with the former having half-a-minute left on the clock. Here’s a recap of their Classical game:

Both Gukesh and So commit multiple errors after entering blitz mode towards the end end and decide to shake hands with the latter having more than half-an-hour left on the clock compared to just four for the world champion.

The two players are nearly even on the eval bar with Keymer having a slight lead over Carlsen on the clock. However, with no real threat from either player so far, an Armageddon face-off appears imminent. Unless the game witnesses some last-minute drama.

Divya consolidates her advantage in the all-Indian battle after consecutive errors by Humpy (18. e3 and 19. Rd2). The former has her Queen on the charge at the moment with a knight and bishop close by, and is also ahead on the clock. Remember, Divya needs a victory to stay within touching distance of current leader Bibisara Assaubayeva.

Gukesh and So certainly have picked up pace with the latter starting to run out of time. And after a couple of solid moves from both, Gukesh decides to advance his c-pawn which is deemed questionable by the engine. Wesley’s response (34. b5), however, is labeled a blunder!

Gukesh decides to nudge his Queen one square to the left to the g-file, which gets a double question-mark from the Stockfish engine, labeling it a blunder. So, however, commits an error of his own (Qxf5) next up, capturing a pawn with his Queen, the move keeping Gukesh slightly ahead on the eval bar.

Gukesh, however, has a few minutes left on the clock compared to more than half-an-hour for his opponent!

We have the first Classical victory of the day with Bibisara defeating Zhu in 33 moves while playing with white pieces, boosting her lead at the top of the women’s standings in the process.

Divya Deshmukh will now have to defeat compatriot Koneru Humpy if she is to remain within touching distance of the Kazakhstani GM at the second spot.

The eval bar tilts further in favour of the reigning world champion after the current Norway Chess 2026 leader commits an error with his bishop on the 21st move (21. Bc6).

Gukesh has less than 20 minutes on the clock compared to just under an hour for his opponent, but the chess engine is firmly on his side at the moment:

As for the current position on the board, Praggnanandhaa has a slight advantage over the Iranian-French GM, who is aiming to recapture the top spot from Wesley So. The Indian GM, however, makes an error by retreating his knight, which takes shaves a bit of his lead off on the eval bar.

Current leader Wesley makes a couple of errors in the middle game (17. b6 and 21. Bc6) which, together with some strong responses by Gukesh, allows the world champion to further strengthen his position on the eval bar. So, however, has a considerable lead over his opponent on the clock.

The board involving world champion Gukesh and current leader So is proving to be the most action-packed game so far with 20 moves having been completed so far. So is more than half-an-hour ahead of the Indian GM on the clock but the latter remains slightly ahead on the eval bar.
