Firouzja narrows the gap with current leader Wesley So after defeating reigning world champion D Gukesh in 61 moves during their eighth-round meeting! Gukesh thus remains at the bottom of the standings with 8 points after his third Classical loss of the ongoing tournament.

Praggnanandhaa has done it! He has defeated world No 1 and defending champion Magnus Carlsen twice in as many meetings in the ongoing tournament!

Carlsen hands the game on a platter to his opponent after a blunder with his King (Kf4), and Pragg responds with a wild chase with his Queen, sealing his victory in 50 moves!

Divya commits a blunder with her rook (Rb5) in her 42nd move.

Bibisara comes up with a solid response, utilising her bishop for a pawn capture. With just seconds left on the clock for Divya, Bibisara suddenly appears a strong favourite to boost her lead at the top!

The eval bar is leading heavily in favour of the Iranian-French Grandmaster with Gukesh’s black King somewhat cornered by his opponent. Can the world champion fight his way to a draw or even an improbable win?

Carlsen’s decision to move his King diagonally to the right (31. Kh3) is labelled an error by the Stockfish engine. Pragg, meanwhile, continues to guard his King with his bishop and has his Queen on the charge on the other side of the board.

The eval bar is firmly in the Indian’s favour at the moment. Can he complete a historic double against the world No 1 today? Carlsen has just a couple of minutes to make seven moves, and is under pressure at the moment.

Tournament leader So now has 14 points to his name, four points ahead of Keymer and Alireza Firouzja, who share the second spot with 10 points each.

Both pairs of knights have been knocked off the board with Pragg and Carlsen also losing a bishop each. Pragg, however, has a pawn advantage over Carlsen and has re-established his time advantage over the defending champion, who has consumed 16 minutes for his last three moves.

Pragg had opened up a sizeable lead over Carlsen on the clock until spending 40 minutes for his 15th move (Qe5) compared to just 11 seconds for the world No 1 and defending champion. Not much to separate the two at the moment, either on the clock or on the eval bar.
