WATCH: Man lifted 50 feet into air as storm tears through UP's Bareilly

A man was flung into the air along with a tin roof and thrown into a field during a powerful storm in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on Wednesday, where severe weather has claimed at least four lives.

A video shared by PTI on X shows the man being lifted into the air while holding onto a tin roof, before he lets go, somersaults mid-air and lands in a field.

The footage initially sparked scepticism online, with some users suggesting it may have been generated using artificial intelligence.

The man, identified as Nanhe Mian of Bamiyana village, said he was thrown nearly 50 feet in the air and suffered multiple injuries during the incident.

He said he had gone to a wedding hall to collect some items when the storm intensified.

“The wind was so strong that the tin shed started making loud noises. I thought if I did not hold onto it, it would be blown away in the storm. So, I immediately grabbed a rope tied to the shed,” PTI quoted Nanhe, aged around 50, as saying on Thursday.

“Then a very strong gust came and lifted both the shed and me into the air. I was carried nearly 50 ft into the air before the storm weakened and I fell to the ground,” he added.

An e-rickshaw driver and a father of five children, Nanhe said he suffered injuries to his head, back, arms and legs, including fractures in his arm and leg.

Bareilly Police said in a statement that Nanhe was inside the wedding hall in Bamiyana when strong winds and rain tore off the tin roof of the structure.

According to the Uttar Pradesh government, at least 89 people have died and around 50 others have been injured in storm and rain-related incidents across the state on Wednesday.

Several animals were also killed, while houses and shops were damaged in multiple areas.

In Bareilly alone, four people died between 8.30 am and 11.30 pm on Wednesday, nine animals were killed, and around 30 houses suffered heavy damage, officials said.
