A powerful dust storm followed by rain swept across parts of Delhi on Tuesday, bringing relief from days of sweltering heat as gusty winds and dust-laden skies reduced visibility across several parts of the national capital

Videos shared on social media showed thick dust clouds moving across several areas of Delhi, including Kartavya Path and the India Gate precinct, as strong winds reduced visibility and transformed the city's skyline.

Visuals posted on X showed the intensity of the storm, with dust-laden winds sweeping through the capital.

Rain lashed parts of Delhi shortly after the intense dust storm. Visuals from around RML Hospital and Gurdwara Bangla Sahib surfaced on X.

The weather shift comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported further progress of the southwest monsoon across several parts of the country.

Monsoon advances across Maharashtra and other states

The IMD said that the southwest monsoon had advanced into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea and additional parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, as well as the remaining areas of Telangana and Odisha and parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

The weather agency said conditions remained favourable for the monsoon to progress further into parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat, additional areas of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days, and the remaining parts of Jharkhand and Bihar and some areas of Uttar Pradesh during the subsequent three to four days.

The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada until June 26. It said isolated areas in Konkan could receive rainfall between June 22 and June 26, while Madhya Maharashtra is likely to witness moderate to heavy showers and Marathwada is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall during the same period.
