13 suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals detained in Gurugram, deportation underway

Gurugram Police have detained 13 alleged Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing illegally in the city and initiated the process to deport them, officials said on Thursday.

The individuals were identified during a special verification drive conducted by the Crime Branch, Sector-39, aimed at tracing Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying in the district without valid documents.

Police said legal action would be taken against those found carrying suspicious documents or those unable to produce proof of lawful residence in India. Authorities have initiated the deportation process in accordance with established legal procedures.

”An escort team comprising 23 police personnel, under the supervision of an inspector, has been deployed. The team accompanied all 13 Bangladeshi nationals from New Delhi Railway Station on the New Delhi-Malda Town Express on July 16. The escort team will safely accompany the foreign nationals to Malda town, West Bengal, where they will be handed over to the authorities concerned at the India-Bangladesh border for deportation in accordance with the prescribed procedure,” ACP (Crime) Naveen Sharma said.

The entire deportation process is being carried out by the Gurugram police strictly in accordance with applicable laws, prescribed procedures and security protocols, he said.

Sharma further added that police are conducting intensive verification of documents and identities of individuals residing in slum areas, colonies, rented accommodations, industrial areas, hotels and other locations across the district.

”Gurugram police appeals to all citizens that if they come across any suspicious person or any foreign national residing illegally, they should immediately inform the police. Citizens are also requested to ensure police verification of their tenants, domestic helpers, employees and staff working in hotels or commercial establishments.

”Gurugram police appeals to all citizens and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to extend their full cooperation in this campaign. No innocent person will be unnecessarily harassed,” Sharma added.
