Yashasvi Jaiswal is coming off perhaps one of his finest displays in one-day cricket for Team India against Afghanistan on Saturday. The Indian left-handed batter delivered an unbeaten 110 off 86 deliveries, showcasing temperament and flair during the chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Jaiswal has been fighting for an opportunity in white-ball cricket, and he finally received it after stepping in as Virat Kohli's replacement after he was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. While he fumbled in Lucknow, the opener made sure to pull off a turnaround in Chennai.

Fans express frustration over Jaiswal's omission

Interestingly, the BCCI have named Kohli in India's ODI line-up, and his participation status remains unknown as it is subject to fitness clearance. But his selection monopolised Jaiswal's chance to shine in the 50-over format.

Jaiswal's non-selection prompted criticism, with fans calling out the BCCI's selection criteria and asking what the Indian opener needed to do to warrant a spot in the team.

One of them asked that if Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be included as the 16th player, then why not Jaiswal?

Another questioned what merit bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has that Jaiswal didn't.

India's tour of England would kick off with a five-match T20 series, followed by a three-match one-day series, starting in July 2026.
