Justin Langer, Tom Moody, Kane Williamson taken to cleaners by Sehwag over repeated mistake: 'Who is taking all these calls?'

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has strongly criticised the think tank of Lucknow Super Giants after their continued struggles in IPL 2026. His comments came after LSG slipped to the bottom of the table following a Super Over defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground in Lucknow.

LSG have just two wins in eight matches and Sunday’s loss was their fifth consecutive defeat. The match saw LSG captain Rishabh Pant win the toss and opt to field first. This decision did not go down well with Sehwag, who questioned the repeated choice despite poor results in chases.

Sehwag slams LSG support staff

He directly pointed fingers at the team’s support staff, including head coach Justin Langer, director of cricket Tom Moody, and strategic advisor Kane Williamson. Sehwag called out the LSG coaching staff for making poor choices despite repeated failures.

"Lucknow Super Giants once again failed to chase down a total in this IPL. I just don’t understand. You have a Director of Cricket and a coach. Kane Williamson, Justin Langer and Tom Moody are all there. What are they thinking? Are they not able to see how their team has been performing? The team is not being able to bat, and still they are winning the toss and inviting the opposition to bat," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Batting first, KKR posted 155 for 7, thanks largely to a brilliant knock from Rinku Singh, who scored 83 and played a key role in the field as well. For LSG, Mohsin Khan impressed with the ball, picking up five wickets for just 23 runs.

In reply, LSG were struggling at 128 for 6 after 18 overs, but a late fightback from Mohammad Shami and a hiccup in the final over by Kartik Tyagi allowed them to level the scores and push the match into a Super Over.

However, the Super Over turned out to be one-sided. Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram for just 1 runs, leaving KKR with an easy target. Rinku Singh finished things off in style with a boundary on the very first ball.

“If they won the toss and opted to bat first, even if they scored 140 to 150, the pressure would have been on KKR. I cannot understand this. You are not able to chase, but you are hell-bent and fixated on wanting to chase. How wise is this? Who is taking all these calls?” Sehwag said after the match.

LSG have already suffered multiple defeats while chasing this season, including losses to Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Rajasthan Royals. The pressure is now mounting on Pant and the support staff to deliver results.
