Virat Kohli rewrites IPL record books with massive 9000-run milestone in his hometown: 'The ultimate run-machine'
Virat Kohli became the first player to score 9000 IPL runs as RCB thrashed DC in IPL 2026. Kohli achieved the milestone in style in his hometown Delhi and in front of a pavilion named after him at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Virat Kohli created history in IPL 2026 (Indian Premier League) by becoming the first batter ever to score 9000 runs in the tournament. The milestone came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s dominant win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, April 27.
Playing in his hometown, Kohli reached the landmark while chasing a small target of 76 runs. After getting to the 9000-run mark, he celebrated in style by smashing back-to-back sixes to finish the match quickly and secure two more points for the defending champions.
Kohli is nearly 2000 runs ahead of the next-best batter on the list, Rohit Sharma, another modern-day Indian great. Rohit’s long-time India opening partner Shikhar Dhawan is third on the table, followed by Australian legend David Warner, one of the best overseas batters in IPL history, and Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul.

DC vs RCB
The game itself was one-sided from the beginning. Delhi Capitals were bowled out for just 75 runs in 16.3 overs after a poor batting performance. They were 8-6 at one point in the game. Josh Hazlewood led the bowling attack brilliantly, picking up four wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar also took three wickets.
During the game, RCB came close to making DC break their unwanted record of being all out for 49. However, Delhi’s middle order remained calm and eventually took the team past the lowest-ever IPL total.
Chasing an easy target, RCB made light work of the total. Jacob Bethell gave a quick start with 20 runs, while Devdutt Padikkal played an attacking knock of 34 not out. Kohli remained unbeaten on 23 off 15 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable nine-wicket victory in just 6.3 overs.
