Shrieking Oprah Winfrey completes viral 'ice bucket challenge'

TV host Oprah Winfrey has completed the ice bucket challenge and has dared actress Helen Mirren and director Steven Spielberg to perform it.The shrieking media icon had the bucket of ice water dumped on her from behind.The challenge, which has gone viral, has a simple request. Once challenged by someone, a user has to post a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice cold water over their heads. Once soaked with cold water, they extend the challenge to others and ask them to either do the same or make a donation to an organisation dedicated to fighting ALS.[caption id="attachment_1668595" align="alignleft" width="380"] Oprah shrieked loudly in the name of ALS: Reuters[/caption]The challenge was initiated by baseball player Pete Frates' family last month to spread the awareness to ALS, neurodegenerative disease. Frate, who was diagnosed with the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012, can no longer speak or move.Winfrey, 60, took to Instagram to share a video of her taking ice bucket challenge. She captioned the video with, "I challenge Steven Spielberg, Helen Mirren and Dayal Manish. In the name of ALS..."The ALS Association said the challenge has “literally soaked” the nation with everyone from 86-year-old widow of Senator Robert Kennedy, Ethel Kennedy to singer Justin Timberlake pouring a bucket of ice water over their heads and challenging others to do the same.According to the ALS Association, an American dies of ALS every 90 minutes. ALS strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70 and as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time. It is known as the Lou Gehrig’s disease in US after the legendary American baseball player who succumbed to the disease.
