A day after singer Dua Lipa sued Samsung for $15 million in a lawsuit for alleging the manufacturer used her face to sell TVs without compensation or permission, the giant has issued a statement over their actions.

Samsung issues statement

In a statement to Billboard on Monday, Samsung was quoted saying, "Ms. Lipa's image was used in 2025 to reflect the content of our third-party partners that is available on Samsung TVs and was originally provided by a content partner for our free streaming service Samsung TV Plus."

The statement added, "The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes. Given this assurance, we deny any allegations of intentional misuse."

They ended their statement saying they have "great respect for Ms. Lipa and the intellectual property of all artists."

Netizens share reactions

I do not believe a single person exists that choose to buy that TV because the add on display had Dua Lipas face lol.

If a billion dollar company can use your face without permission, imagine what they’ll do to ordinary people. Protecting image rights matters.

Dua Lipa deserves compensation.

The only reason i bought my Samsung tv back in 2019 was this womans face.

It was nothing to do with the tv quality or the price or the features.

If Samsung doesn’t think her face sells TVs, then why did they put it on the box? They could have used a picture of a bowl of fruit or a landscape. They chose to print it on a million boxes because her image has value.
