Actor Darshan's jail suicide attempt rumours dismissed by Karnataka DGP; Here’s what happened
Karnataka DGP has dismissed rumours claiming Kannada actor Darshan attempted suicide in jail. Here’s what officials said about the viral reports.

Rumours surrounding Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa allegedly attempting suicide inside prison were officially dismissed by Karnataka’s Director General of Police (DGP), putting an end to widespread speculation circulating online.
The clarification came after several social media posts and unverified reports claimed that the actor had attempted self-harm while lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison. However, prison authorities and senior police officials have now categorically denied the claims.
What sparked the rumours?
The speculation reportedly began after rumours spread online suggesting that Darshan’s mental health had deteriorated significantly inside prison and that he had allegedly attempted suicide. The reports quickly gained traction across Kannada entertainment circles and fan pages, leading to concern among the actor’s supporters. However, authorities later clarified that there was no truth to the claims.
Karnataka DGP issues clarification
Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan reportedly dismissed the rumours and confirmed that Darshan was safe. “The rumours (of Darshan trying to harm himself) are far from the truth. He is doing fine,” he said.
Officials stated that no such suicide attempt had taken place and urged people not to spread misinformation regarding the actor’s condition, dismissing the rumours as “completely baseless”, as per a report in Times of India.
Darshan’s legal troubles
Darshan has remained at the centre of intense media scrutiny over the past year in connection with the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case.
The actor, along with several others, was arrested in relation to the alleged abduction and murder of fan Renukaswamy, a case that sent shockwaves across Karnataka and the Kannada film industry.
The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings have continued to dominate headlines, with strong reactions from both supporters and critics of the actor.
Darshan has reportedly written to the prison superintendent seeking permission to meet his wife, Vijayalakshmi Darshan. Vijayalakshmi also met the DGP and requested a private meeting with the actor ahead of their wedding anniversary. Authorities stated that a decision would be taken in accordance with prison regulations.
The DGP further revealed that Vijayalakshmi appeared emotional during the meeting, particularly after the Supreme Court recently rejected Darshan’s bail plea. She had also shared an emotional post on Instagram reflecting on the difficult phase she is currently going through.
