Summer blockbuster: 'Captain America: Civil War' crosses 50 cr mark in India

Just like Bollywood stars vie for a holiday release of their films for a better business, Hollywood superhero film Captain America: Civil War took a release right during the summer vacation. And their gamble paid off well.The film might not match the roaring success of The Jungle Book in India, but Civil War has made Rs 50 crore by the end of second weekend. No mean feat, this.Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:Captain America: Civil War, released in 1323 screens across India, haa recovered more than double of the lifetime collection of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Rs 22.30 crore; 1074 screens) and Captain America: The First Avenger (Rs 0.79 crore; 10 screens) combined, reveals trade analyst Atul Mohan and the distributor of the films, Disney India.[caption id="attachment_2765924" align="alignleft" width="380"] Captain America: Civil War. Image from Facebook.[/caption]Captain America: Civil War has also surpassed the overall collection of The Avengers (Rs 50.36 crore) in India and nearing to the lifetime collection of Avengers: Age of Ultron (Rs 77.50 crore; 1690 screens).“The film was extremely engaging with a lot of fun and action sequences. It is bound to draw children to the cinema. And if a child wants to go, obviously an adult in the family is bound to tag along and that multiplies the ticket sales,” says exhibitor Akshaye Rathi.Releasing a superhero film during the summer vacation has paid off, believes distributor and trade analyst Girish Wankhede.“In the Captain America franchise, you have a star like Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, and so you get two superheroes. The marketing of Captain America: Civil War has been huge," he says.Experts are however sure enough that while it might break records of other superhero films, it can’t surpass the collection of The Jungle Book.“I don’t think it will cross anywhere near Jungle book or even make Rs 100 crore but yes it will remain one of the top Hollywood grossers in India,” trade analyst Atul Mohan said.
