MMSC wins bid to host FMSCI National Racing Championship from 2016 to 2018

The Madras Motor Sport Club (MMSC) has confirmed that it has won the bid to host the FMSCI National Racing Championship for 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers yet again. This time the MMSC has won the bid to run the national championship for three years, starting 2016 and ending in 2018. Perhaps a major coup for the club, however, is the fact that the Volkswagen Vento Cup will join the championship, making a departure from the JK Tyre Racing Championship. Volkswagen's Polo Cup ran with JK Tyre from its inception in 2010, continuing with the Vento Cup in 2015.

The MMSC has also confirmed that it will host the National 4-wheeler and 2-wheeler Drag Racing Championships. It will also host the National 2 -wheeler Dirt Track championship.

A typical weekend at the National Racing Championship will now feature MRF FF1600 cars, along with the Indian Touring Car Racing championship, Indian Junior Touring Car Racing championship, National Super Stock Racing championship, and a National Rookies Racing championship (essentially a rebranded LGB F1300 championship). This, in addition to the Vento Cup.

Speaking of the new tie up with the MMSC FMSCI NRC, Sirish Vissa, head of motorsport for Volkswagen India declared "It's been six fantastic years for us with the JK Tyre. And without them we wouldn't be where we are today. However, we felt that the time had come for us to try and find more synergies. And as a partner, MRF works in areas that we are interested in. And their experience with Skoda in the APRC programme is just one such example."

While Vissa refused to go into further detail about the synergies he spoke of, he merely said that the "realignment of partners was the right move at this point of time." He also added that even though the official commitment has been made when it comes to joining the MMSC FMSCI NRC, the finer details are yet to be ironed out. More details on exactly how the partnership will proceed can be expected in the second half of January 2016.
