US Iran War Live Updates: Iran urges citizens to conserve electricity after US strikes on energy infrastructure

Iran has claimed it targeted the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar as part of its 15th wave of military operations, saying the strike hit key American military assets.

In a statement carried by Iran’s state-run IRIB news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the attack destroyed a long-range radar system and several US aerial refuelling aircraft stationed at the base.

The IRGC also warned that any further attacks on Iran or its civilian infrastructure would trigger a stronger response. It said countries hosting US military bases in the region should be prepared for the consequences if such operations continue, adding that Tehran would launch more powerful attacks in the event of further escalation.

Iran has urged its citizens to reduce electricity consumption after US strikes on energy infrastructure in the country’s south placed additional strain on the national power grid.

In a statement issued on Friday, Iran’s Energy Ministry said the affected southern regions were facing “extreme heat and attacks on power infrastructure,” prompting the appeal to conserve electricity.

The ministry did not specify which facilities were targeted, and it remains unclear whether the strikes hit power plants, transmission lines or other parts of the electricity network.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday accused Israel of using US taxpayer money to silence critics, while alleging that the Israeli government was exerting undue influence over Washington’s foreign and domestic policies.

In a post on X, Araghchi questioned what he described as Israel’s influence on the US administration, writing: “Americans are being warned of foreign influence. How about the extensive Israeli campaign to bamboozle the US administration into an unwinnable war of choice?”

The remarks referred to a Time magazine article that reported former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale was involved in an Israeli influence campaign aimed at members of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

“Even worse: Israel is using US taxpayer dollars to silence any US critics. It will all soon unravel,” Araghchi wrote.

Several airlines have begun restoring flights to parts of the Middle East following the conflict triggered by US and Israeli strikes on Iran, although widespread disruptions to regional air travel continue.

According to a Reuters report, some carriers have resumed operations on select routes after reviewing security conditions. However, several airlines have kept flight suspensions in place as concerns over the regional security situation persist.

Kuwait on Friday said an Iranian attack damaged one of its power generation and water desalination stations, disrupting electricity production and triggering a fire at the facility.

In a statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said the strike caused damage to infrastructure at the station and led to the shutdown of a large number of electricity generation units.

Authorities said emergency teams responded to the fire, while efforts were underway to assess the full extent of the damage and restore affected operations.

Iranian state media on Friday reported that overnight US strikes on infrastructure in southern and western parts of the country killed at least eight people and injured 20 others.

According to the reports, the attacks targeted infrastructure facilities across the two regions, resulting in multiple casualties. Iranian authorities have not yet released further details on the identities of those killed or the extent of the damage.

The head of Iran’s Parliament National Security Commission has condemned the US attacks on the country, warning that Tehran would respond to the strikes.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the senior lawmaker criticised the American attacks and declared, “We will darken your days,” in a strongly worded warning directed at the United States.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Friday that it had targeted US fighter jets and aerial refuelling aircraft stationed in Jordan as part of a new wave of missile and drone attacks.

According to Iran’s state-affiliated Press TV, the IRGC Aerospace Force said the strikes were carried out in two waves during the 14th phase of Operation Nasr 2.

A senior Iranian official has warned that any location used to launch attacks against Iran would be considered a “legitimate target,” escalating tensions amid the ongoing conflict with the United States.

According to Iran International, the official said Tehran would retaliate against any country or facility involved in strikes on Iranian territory. The warning came as hostilities between the two sides continue to intensify.

“If Iranian infrastructure is attacked, no infrastructure will remain” elsewhere in the region, the official was quoted as saying, signalling the possibility of a broader regional response if attacks continue.

Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed significantly after renewed fighting between the United States and Iran, disrupting one of the world’s most critical energy routes and fuelling concerns over global oil supplies.

The escalation in hostilities has once again affected vessel movement through the strategic waterway, through which nearly a fifth of the world’s oil and gas passes, contributing to a rise in global energy prices.

According to Kpler data, the sanctioned product tanker Miraan, carrying fuel oil, and Norita, a smaller vessel transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), exited the Strait of Hormuz via the Iranian shipping lane on Thursday. However, both ships later halted in the Gulf of Oman, where the United States has imposed a naval blockade.

Separately, Arolia, a bunkering tanker loaded with Iraqi fuel oil used to refuel ships at sea, reversed course just hours after exiting the Gulf on Friday and headed back, according to LSEG shipping data.

Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, has voted 62-0 to approve a party financing bill that includes a provision dissolving the legislature ahead of the country’s October election.

Following the vote, the Knesset entered recess and will not resume regular sittings until the newly elected parliament is sworn in, according to The Times of Israel.

Bahrain’s armed forces say its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed “a number of hostile Iranian aerial attacks.”

In a statement, the military said, “Iran has continued its aggressive approach by carrying out cowardly attacks targeting civilians in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

The armed forces urged residents to exercise caution, avoid approaching any unfamiliar or suspicious objects that may have resulted from the attacks, and report them immediately.

“The General Command stresses that the deliberate use of missiles and drones to target civilians and private property constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law,” the statement added.

Only three commodity vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, the lowest daily number of transits since May, according to shipping data.

Most ships either halted their journeys or turned back following recent Iranian attacks on vessels and the resumption of a US blockade on Iran-related shipping.

According to Kpler data as of 05:13 GMT on Friday, Miraan, a sanctioned product tanker carrying fuel oil, and Norita, a small liquefied petroleum gas carrier, exited the strait via the Iranian route before stopping in the Gulf of Oman, where the US blockade is in effect.

LSEG data showed that Arolia, a bunkering tanker carrying Iraqi fuel oil used to refuel ships at sea, made a U-turn and headed back into the Gulf just hours after exiting the Strait on Friday.

The death toll from overnight US air strikes on Iran has risen to eight, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.

IRNA reported that the strikes, which targeted infrastructure across several provinces late on Thursday and into the early hours of Friday, also injured 20 people.

Israeli forces have arrested at least three Palestinians during raids in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Palestinian security officials told Wafa that Israeli forces entered the city before dawn on Friday and arrested Awni Rajab Tawfiq al-Sharif from the al-Maajin neighbourhood, Hamza Abdul Rahman Bana from Hajjah Afifa Street, and Haitham al-Masri from Asira Street after raiding their homes.

Strikes in Iraq’s Kurdistan region killed eight members of an Iranian Kurdish armed opposition group, the exiled party said, blaming the attack on Iran.

Idriss Kohlwazi from the Komala party told AFP that “the Iranian regime attacked with drones and rockets a camp” belonging to the party and its vicinity near the city of Sulaimaniyah in the early morning, resulting in the “martyrdom of eight of our members and wounding others”.

A tanker was hit by an unknown projectile while sailing about 19 nautical miles (35km) east of Khasab, Oman, on Thursday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said.

The crew is safe, and there has been no environmental impact, the agency added.

Iranian state media has reported that overnight US strikes on infrastructure in southern and western Iran killed eight people and wounded 20 others.

“Some infrastructure in several provinces of the country came under US military attack,” the IRNA news agency said, reporting that six bridges in the southern province of Hormozgan were targeted.

The US-led coalition shot down several drones over Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, Kurdish forces said, in the second such incident in the city this week.

Kurdish counterterrorism forces said that “coalition forces downed eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil between 04:19 and 05:25 am (0119 and 0225 GMT)”, with no damage or casualties reported.

Iran’s health ministry said Friday that at least 38 people had been killed and more than 400 injured in the country since fighting resumed with the United States.

“The number of injured from US attacks has exceeded 400, and 38 compatriots have been martyred” since June 22, ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour posted on X. “Among them are 22 injured women, three martyred women, nine injured under the age of 18, and one martyr under 18.”

China and Pakistan’s foreign ministers called Friday for the United States and Iran to stop fighting and resume negotiations,  according to a statement following a meeting in Shanghai.

China’s Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Ishaq Dar jointly “expressed concern over the deterioration of the current situation, calling on the involved parties to immediately cease hostilities… (and) return to dialogue”, the statement by China’s foreign ministry said.

Both countries have sought to mediate in the months-long Middle East conflict, which rekindled with renewed fighting over the Strait of Hormuz a month after the signing of a preliminary deal aiming to end the war.

That agreement was “hard-won”, Wang said.

“Peace is before our eyes, (we) cannot fall at the last hurdle and even more so cannot lose what we have gained,” he added.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has destroyed a US air control radar in Oman’s Ghanem region and a maritime surveillance radar located on rocks in the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway separating Iran and Oman.

In a statement on what it described as the 13th wave of its ongoing attacks, the IRGC said, “the retaliatory operation continues with determination,” adding that the Strait of Hormuz “remains in the hands of the IRGC Navy’s admirals.”

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it carried out a retaliatory strike on a US military base in Kuwait, targeting a missile defence radar, several weapons depots and two HIMARS surface-to-surface missile launchers, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.

The IRGC said the attack was in response to recent US strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure, including telecommunications and railway networks.

It also claimed that US military actions had caused a “severe drop in production and a complete halt of oil and gas exports through the Strait of Hormuz,” warning that its “retaliatory operations would continue.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have said they had attacked the Al-Tanf military base in Syria.

“The IRGC announces a surprise attack on the enemy’s Special Operations Command Center in Syria’s Al-Tanf region in retaliation for the blood of the martyred Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr,” the state broadcaster wrote on Telegram.

A US missile strike has hit the maritime control tower at Iran’s Chabahar port, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency. The agency said the attack marks the third time US strikes have targeted the facility over the past week. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has shared footage of the damage caused.

The Iranian army says it carried out drone strikes targeting US military deployment sites and logistical support centres in Kuwait.

In a statement carried by the Fars news agency, the military said, “Relying on history, popular support, experience, and combat readiness, we stand with vigilance and authority against any pressure or threat.”

The US Central Command has redirected three commercial vessels trying to run the blockade, disabled one that didn’t comply, and boarded one to ensure full compliance with the ongoing US naval blockade against Iran.
