Trump signs US-Iran peace deal, MoU comes into effect immediately

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed the hard copy of the US-Iran agreement at the Palace of Versailles in France as he concluded his visit to the European nation for the G7 Summit. "It's signed", Trump told reporters after a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Trump's formal signature on the hard copy of the agreement came right after Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that both nations have "finalised and electronically signed" the deal. He added that the agreement has already gone into effect.

“The text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was finalised with the signatures of the presidents,” Baghaei told the news agency IRNA. “Now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement.”

With this, the US-Iran peace agreement has come into immediate effect, with the Wednesday statements confirming that both sides have agreed to suspend military operations, paving the way for further negotiations.

Since both sides already signed the agreement electronically, Baghaei noted that there would be no signing ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, as it was previously expected. A decision on a possible in-person meeting between them is expected in the coming hours, though for now such plans are paused, according to Baghaei.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, which has played the mediation role in the talks, has also endorsed the newly signed memorandum of peace. “Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif wrote in a statement on X.

The Pakistani premier said that his country, along with co-mediator Qatar, will host the official ceremony set for Friday in Switzerland “to commemorate this landmark event and commence with the technical-level talks.”
