Terrorist sympathiser who helped Khalistanis in India allowed to enter Canada

According to a media report on Wednesday, a Canadian immigration tribunal decided that a Sikh man who for more than ten years "housed and fed Khalistani militants in India" could be permitted entry since he did it "mostly out of necessity" and out of fear of retaliation.According to the National Post, Heidi Worsfold, a member of the Immigration and Refugee Board tribunal, recently ruled that the government lacked reasonable justification to bar Indian national Kamaljit Ram from entering Canada on the grounds that he had allegedly provided a "safe house" and "logistical support" to Khalistani militants.The immigration tribunal determined that the Sikh man should be permitted entry into Canada because he "housed and fed" armed Khalistani terrorists in India for more than ten years.The federal government initially decided to ban Ram from entering Canada after he admitted to CBSA agents that he intermittently housed and nourished armed Sikh militants at his farm in India between 1982 and 1992.Worsfold concluded that the government overstated the extent of Ram's support for the armed militants at the time when it failed to take into account the fact that Ram frequently stated that he agreed to host the militants because he "feared the consequences" of being on the receiving end of the organisation.The decision was made in the midst of a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada as a result of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of "potential" Indian agent involvement in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia. India dismissed the allegations as "absurd" and "motivated" and made its own counterclaim.Two hooded shooters shot and killed Nijjar. In 2020, India deemed Nijjar to be a terrorist.India pleaded with Canada last month to take tough action against terrorists and anti-India elements operating on its soil.(With agency inputs)
