Protesters storm Kuwaiti consulate in Iraq’s Basra after rocket attack kills three

Angry protesters stormed the Kuwaiti consulate in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Tuesday following a deadly rocket attack that killed at least three people, reported Reuters, citing police sources.

Security and health officials reported that rockets fired from the direction of Kuwait struck a house in Khor al-Zubair, near Basra, injuring five others. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise as some family members remained trapped under debris.

Police in Basra said they were attempting to control the demonstrators, who had gathered outside the consulate to demand accountability. The crowd reportedly vandalized parts of the consulate building before security forces intervened.

The rocket strike has escalated tensions along the Iraq-Kuwait border, highlighting longstanding security challenges in the region. Local officials have called for a joint investigation to determine the origin of the attack and prevent further violence.
