PM Modi to visit Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from July 8-11

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from July 8 to 11, with a focus on strengthening India's engagement in the eastern maritime region of the Indian Ocean and advancing its Act East policy.

Addressing a media briefing in New Delhi on Friday, Rudrendra Tandon, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, said PM Modi will visit Indonesia on July 8 and 9, followed by Australia on July 10 and New Zealand on July 11.

Tandon said Jakarta will be the primary venue for the Prime Minister's engagements in Indonesia.

PM Modi will also travel to the historic city of Yogyakarta, where he is scheduled to visit the Prambanan Temple complex.

He noted that India and Indonesia will collaborate on conservation efforts at the temple site, highlighting the cultural dimension of bilateral ties.

"The focus has shifted to the eastern maritime zones of the Indian Ocean and our Act East engagement," Tandon said, outlining the broader strategic objectives of the visit.

PM Modi's historic NZ visit

The PM’s visit to New Zealand would be the first visit by an Indian PM in 40 years, the last being Rajiv Gandhi's trip in 1986.

Formally announcing the visit, the New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon described the trip as "historic".

“I’m delighted to announce Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi will make his first official visit to New Zealand next week.

"India is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies, and a country of enormous importance to New Zealand's prosperity," Luxon said.

"We are taking the two countries' relationship to the next level with our New Zealand-India free trade agreement, signed in April, which will deliver more jobs, higher exports and stronger economic growth for New Zealand."

The visit also comes after the two countries signed the Free Trade Agreement on April 27, 2026, and PM Modi’s visit is expected to work as a catalyst and generate momentum in trade and bilateral relations.

Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu had visited New Zealand in August 2024 while New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon had visited India in March 2025.
