One security guard dead, another injured in stabbing at Macy's in Philadelphia

A security guard was killed and another injured on Monday in a stabbing incident at Macy's in Philadelphia, United States. The tragic event unfolded at the department store located in the 1300 block of Market Street in Center City.According to the interim police commissioner John Stanford, the incident commenced around 10:45 am (local time) when an individual allegedly tried to steal multiple hats from the store, reported CBS News.Security intervened, successfully retrieving the merchandise after a confrontation. Despite this, the individual was allowed to leave but returned approximately 15 minutes later.Upon returning to the store, the individual targeted one of the security guards, eventually running towards a second guard with a knife, resulting in stabbing injuries. The second guard, attempting to assist his colleague, sustained several slash and stab wounds.Both guards were taken to Jefferson Hospital, where the 30-year-old guard succumbed to his injuries, while the 23-year-old guard suffered stab wounds to his face and left arm.The suspect fled on the Market-Frankford Line but was arrested later at SEPTA's Somerset Station.
