Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed that an officer of the J&K administration services was killed amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. In a separate post, he slammed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approving a $1 billion disbursement to Pakistan under the ongoing Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

“I’m not sure how the ‘International Community’ thinks the current tension in the subcontinent will be de-escalated when the IMF essentially reimburses Pakistan for all the ordnance it is using to devastate Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Tangdhar & so many other places,” Abdullah wrote on X, formerly knowns as Twitter.

On Friday, the IMF held a review meeting and India, as a member of the IMF, abstained from voting. During the meeting, the international financial body also decided to consider an additional $1.3 billion loan for Pakistan under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). India has argued that the IMF funds could be misused for financing state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.

Abdullah mourns the loss of an officer

The post from the chief minister came right after he expressed shock at the death of the officer of the J&K Administration Services. The officer was killed in Pakistan’s shelling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri yesterday.

"Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district & attended the online meeting I chaired," he wrote in the post.

"Today, the residence of the officer was hit by Pak shelling as they targeted Rajouri town, killing our Additional District Development Commissioner, Sh Raj Kumar Thappa. I’ve no words to express my shock & sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace," he concluded.
