Modi to address Guyanese Parliament today, his 14th speech in foreign legislatures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Guyana and during his two-day visit, he will be addressing a Special Session of the Guyanese parliament on November 21. This marks another significant moment in his global diplomatic outreach.

Modi's address in the Guyanese parliament will be the 14th such instance when he will speak on behalf of the people of India in the Parliaments of foreign nations.

PM Modi holds the distinction of being the Indian Prime Minister with the highest number of addresses to foreign Parliaments.

Number of foreign parliament addresses by former Indian PMs

Modi's addresses to the Foreign Parliaments are double the number of addresses by his formers including Manmohan Singh, who had delivered seven such addresses.

Indira Gandhi had addressed foreign legislatures four times, while Jawaharlal Nehru did it three times.

Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee delivered two such addresses. Others like Morarji Desai and PV Narsimha Rao addressed only once.

Modi honoured with 4 top awards in 5 days

Earlier this week, Guyana and Barbados conferred their top awards on PM Modi. Guyana conferred its highest national award “The Order of Excellence", while Barbados will bestow the prestigious Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados.

Dominica also felicitated PM Modi with its top award.

On Sunday, Nigeria conferred the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) during PM Modi’s official visit. The only other foreign dignitary to have received this award was Queen Elizabeth II in 1969.

With this, the number of international honours for PM Modi has now reached 19.
